Ener-G-Africa recognised for its contribution to improving the lives of Africans at AFSIA Solar Award

Ener-G-Africa (EGA) has been recognised for its contribution to improving the lives of Africans at the 2024 AFSIA Solar Awards held in Nairobi, as it emerged a finalist for the Solar Home System (SHS) company of the year category.
Held annually by AFSIA, the industry association for solar professionals in Africa (headquartered in Kigali, Rwanda), the AFSIA Solar Awards recognise and celebrate outstanding companies and individuals that have contributed to promoting and advancing the use of solar across Africa in its full diversity.
The SHS category is open to legally registered African companies active in energy access activities through manufacturing, financing, distribution or any key enabling services for pico-solar (small plug-and-play PV systems that can usually provide power for a few lights and a mobile phone charger) and/or SHS products. Originally founded in Malawi in 2017, EGA now runs its headquarters in South Africa. EGA currently runs two main manufacturing facilities, in Lilongwe and Paarl and an assembly plant in Mozambique. All products are specifically designed for African markets, from high-quality solar panels and clean cookstoves to biomass fuels.
“This recognition highlights our company’s commitment to advancing solar technology in Africa,” says EGA CEO, Andre Moolman. “Our mission is to empower the lives of lower-income communities by giving them access to high-quality, yet affordable renewable energy products.”
Manufacturing products that address local needs
As a leader in developing innovative solar energy solutions specifically for African markets, EGA supplies high-quality products across the continent. These include Angola, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
“With our solar panel modules being manufactured locally, it means we have been able to adapt our design specifically for the requirements of the African market, particularly the 275W panels, which no other manufacturer currently makes,” says Moolman. “They are specifically tailored to offer higher capacity in a smaller area and are practical for residential use.”
The panels are also suitable for powering water pumps, lighting and remote security solutions, such as community cameras, electric fences, and access control automation.
EGA’s FAB stove, an eco-friendly biomass pellet stove has a built-in fan powered by a 20W EGA solar panel, making it one of the cleanest, most environmentally-friendly cookstoves on the market. Designed to replace the inefficient and dangerous traditional stoves or open fires often used in poorer communities, it aims to help people in Africa to cook faster, reduce costs and health risks.
EGA’s range of solar panels are manufactured in South Africa under internationally recognised certification (by TUV NORD) in accordance with ISO and IEC Standards.
“Our vision is for every African household, regardless of their income, to have access to clean, renewable energy” says Moolman.
