Ener-G-Africa champions the upskilling of women in the energy sector

Five Interns Skilled at EGA
Despite global efforts to bridge the gender gap, women continue to fall behind in the workforce, facing unequal opportunities and representation across various industries. This disparity remains even more pronounced in Africa, where cultural, economic, and educational barriers further limit women’s participation and advancement in the labor market.
The gap is even wider in male-dominated industries like the energy sector, where African women account for only 16% of the workforce, and earn less than their male counterparts, according to the International Energy Agency. Now, more than ever, there is a pressing need to include more women in industries such as energy, as they are among the highest consumers of energy through activities, such as cooking and managing household needs.
In response, Ener-G-Africa has welcomed five female interns to its solar plant in Paarl for a 10-month programme to gain hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of Ener-G-Africa’s solar production manufacturing. This forms part of Ener-G-Africa’s ongoing commitment to collaborate with leading educational institutions to ensure that its workforce gains the necessary qualifications and certifications across various disciplines.
Ener-G-Africa is proud to play a role in empowering women within the sector and looks forward to contributing to the gender equality shift in the clean energy industry.
