In a country with an unemployment rate of over 35%, the South African informal sector is a lifeline to countless families who lack formal employment. Informal businesses provide livelihoods, jobs and income for approximately 2.5 million people. To help boost this sector, Ener-G-Africa, in partnership with Ranyaka and SHARE, attended the Township Economies Expo, which took place in Johannesburg recently.

Ener-G-Africa is excited to have signed up 15 new sales agents at the event. The agents, who come from township communities such as Diepkloof, Alexandra, Tembisa and Kempton Park in Gauteng will each receive product training and an Ener-G-Africa starter pack of products.

On the other hand, Ranyaka and SHARE, who have business support hubs across South Africa will offer additional training in the form of business skills and support to keep each agent’s informal business afloat, enabling them to generate an income for themselves and their families.
